Monica Vergara, M.A.

As founder of Business Impact, Monica provides expertise to business, educational, and non-profit organizations in three key areas:

Talent Selection – Improving selection through highly customized selection tools based on personality assessments and behavioral interviewing.

Performance Management – Helping organizations optimize performance and employee engagement through competency models and performance evaluation tools.

Leadership Development – Supporting leadership development through customized 360 feedback sessions and brain-based coaching for new and experienced leaders.

Monica has worked for international corporations, consulting firms, and non-profit organizations. Her current and most recent projects include:

  • Developing highly customized behavioral interview guides, leader and/or teacher selection tools for nationally recognized charter schools including YES Prep Public Schools, IDEA Public Schools, Uplift Education, University Prep Academy, Achievement First, and DC Prep Public Schools.
  • Designing 360 survey and delivering feedback to school leaders at YES Prep and to new leaders participating in Houston A+ Challenge’s leadership development programs.
  • Developing the “YES Prep Human Capital Pipeline”, a framework for leadership development and succession planning based on Ram Charan’s book “The Leadership Pipeline”.
  • Collaborating with Dr. Pierce J. Howard, Founder of Center for Applied Cognitive Studies, as Education Research Specialist on his book “The Owner’s Manual for the Brain, 4th Edition.” Monica’s experience collaborating with charter schools and managing the employment process at Anheuser-Busch’s Brewing facility in Houston, provide her with a unique understanding of both the academic and corporate perspectives. Her ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken Spanish, and her first-hand knowledge of the Hispanic culture allow her to develop instant rapport and strong working relationships with a wide range of employees at all levels of the organization.

Monica believes in sound evaluation and research as a critical step in the organizational development process. She approaches all of her interventions from the standpoint of improvement and works diligently to not only deliver results, but also to drive positive organizational change in the process.

Monica holds a Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a special focus on Marketing. She is a member of the Houston Organizational Development Network and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Her ultimate goal is to answer the question of teacher effectiveness from the standpoint of personality traits.
